Free Gucci Bag! Click here!………….why do people actually click this crap anyway?
My God, if you haven’t been on MySpace lately… just go look and see how it’s become indulged in spam. I know it’s always been somewhat bad, but lately it’s worse. It seems that every day now I get a comment from a friend who’s account has been phished…
MySpace is apparently taking some type of legal action against this (this is what I’ve heard), in the same act of bring down all the bot websites. I recently heard TheGlobe.com is facing a lawsuit, but I’m not sure how accurate that is. Many other websites have been faced with threats from MySpace, but nothing has been confirmed as far as an actual lawsuit yet. Now here is the real question that MySpace should be considering…
“What should we do to revert this spam?”
Of course they can take out the big guys behind it, but in someway or another it’ll more than likely continue.
These things spread like wildfire, since the average MySpace user really doesn’t know any better. My suggestion to them is a bit far-fetched, but if they execute it right, it’ll work…
First of all, before anything. Put a “Flag as Spam” option on the comment page and bulletin page. This already exists for messages.
Then, simply reset everyone’s password that has received multiple “Spam Flags”. Do it after they are flagged, I don’t know… 5 times. Then, MySpace will automatically e-mail that user a new password to their registered e-mail address. And so the user doesn’t get confused and think his/her account was deleted, notify them in an alert box or something upon “Incorrect Password” with a message like “Your password has been submitted to your e-mail address because of recent spam sent from your account.” And poof, the spammer no longer has access to the account… and the user learns their lesson and their account is back to normal.
Now come on, that’s simple and can easily be done by MySpace’s coders. If they want to climb out of the hole they’re in.
On the other hand, I think because of these “evil marketing intentions” that the MySpace market is quickly becoming depleted. Everyone knows better than to click a random link in a bulletin or comment now, it’s been done, MOST users have caught on to the schemes. And most users don’t care, or don’t see what ever you advertise directly in your profile. So really, you cant advertise anything legit as well as you could about 6 months ago.
But luckily, if you’re a music artist, a filmmaker, a clothing designer or anything like that… you still might have some game in the MySpace community. In fact, you do. Keep at it.
As for everyone else, it may be time to begin looking for a new network. I just think that over the next few months, there’ll be places you’ll find better results. Maybe a site that you’ll be more welcome at. And as for the ones who ruined it… by phishing, abusing the available software, and just straight up being selfish: Well, go to hell.
